Founder/President

I am Kantrell D. Shelton, Founder and President of Future Starts Now, Inc. The past 17 years of my life have been dedicated to providing different types of mental health services to the youth in our community while working in different arenas. After arriving in Fayetteville in 1999 it became very easy to see that there was a need for positive influences in this area. I've had the pleasure of working at the Boys and Girls Club where I saw first-hand the need for positive role models for what is referred to as At-Risk Youth. My history working with children goes back to group homes/level three facilities where these very children were placed when they were taken from their homes. My direct work with At-Risk Youth continues even after attaining my Master of Science in Addiction Counseling.  Over the years I have learned many different forms of therapy but I attribute most of my success to the use of Cognitive Behavior Therapy and Motivational Interviewing. I now continue this work through mentoring and being able to provide substance abuse counseling to the very same age group. Being able and willing to provide help to these children helps to ensure that our future can be great.

Hello, my name is Shakiya Capers and I am from Chesterfield, Virginia. I graduated from Virginia State University with a bachelor’s degree in Accounting. I currently work for the Department of Defense (DoD) as an Auditor; however, I plan on owning a Child Development Center within the next three to five years. My husband and I believe that children are not only our future, but they are our RIGHT NOW. God has given us a passion to ensure that children succeed, to give them hope to those in hopeless situations, and to change the world one child at the time.
